Hillary Brown, FAIA, is Professor of Architecture and Program Director of the City College of New York’s interdisciplinary master’s program, Sustainability in the Urban Environment. She is a Fellow of the Post Carbon Institute as well as Senior Advisor to the Ecologic Institute, U.S. She is also a Senior Research Fellow at the CUNY Institute of Urban Systems, and Affiliated Faculty with CUNY’s Advanced Science Research Center. Hillary recently served two terms on the Board on Infrastructure and the Constructed Environment (BICE), under the National Academies’ National Research Council. Hillary’s two latest books,Next Generation Infrastructure (Island Press 2014) and Infrastructural Ecologies, (MIT Press 2017) describe alternative, integrated approaches to regenerative urban system planning that demonstrate the crosscutting benefits of low-carbon and resilient urban services, aligned with natural and social systems. In 1997, Hillary was founding Director of NYC’s Office of Sustainable Design, developing its High Performance Building and High PerformanceInfrastructure Guidelines.
